Age Specific Fertility Rate: The number of live births to women in a certain age group, per 1,000 women in that age group. e.g., Live births to adolescent mothers per 1,000 adolescent girls of the same age in the Utah population.

Prior to 2015 San Juan County was part of the Southeast Local Health District. In 2015 the San Juan County Local Health District was formed. Data reported are for all years using the current boundaries.
  • Utah Birth Certificate Database, Office of Vital Records and Statistics, Utah Department of Health and Human Services. Utah Population Estimates Committee (UPEC) and the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget (GOPB) for years 1980-1999. For years 2000-2009 the population estimates are provided by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) through a collaborative agreement with the U.S. Census Bureau. For years 2010 and later, the population estimates are provided by the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, Utah state and county annual population estimates are by single year of age and sex, IBIS Version 2023
Birth certificates are filed electronically by hospital birth certificate clerks. The information comes from a variety of sources including a worksheet the mother fills out, the mother's prenatal record, and the delivery record. The Office of Vital Records and Statistics has a Quality Control program where every hospital is audited annually. Births are randomly selected and hospital records are checked to verify the accuracy of the reported information.
