Relevant Population Characteristics

Age is a risk factor for influenza. Adults 65 years of age and older are at increased risk of contracting influenza due to a natural decline in the strength of their immune system. Children younger than five years, but especially younger than two years of age are considered high-risk for influenza. However, people of all ages with immune deficiencies or other high-risk conditions are at increased risk for influenza.
