Some risk factors for high cholesterol can be reduced through lifestyle changes. The risk factors include lack of exercise, overweight and obesity, cigarette smoking, and high cholesterol diet. Some risk factors are more difficult to control, such as family history and liver functioning. Certain medications can contribute to high cholesterol as well.
