Health Status Outcomes
Falls are the leading cause of death and injury disability among Utahns 65 years of age and older. Falls account for more than 95% of hip fractures and are the leading cause of traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries among seniors. Among people ages 75 and older, those who fall are four to five times more likely to be admitted to a long-term care facility for a year or longer. Nearly one in four elderly Utahns will die of complications from a hip fracture within one year of the injury.
