Query Builder for Emergency Department Encounter for Primary Care Sensitive Conditions Query Module for Utah Small Areas - Crude Rates - ED Treat and Release Encounters

Overview

The inpatient discharge data in this IBIS-Q query module come from all Utah licensed hospitals. The database is maintained by the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, Healthcare Information and Analysis Programs. The population data used for the denominator were produced by ESRI ZIP Code data provided annual population estimates for ZIP Code areas by sex and age groups, are considered the most accurate available.

As of November 22, 2017, the IBIS system has been updated to use an algorithm which uses both ZIP and county information to designate Local Health District (LHD) and Utah Small Area. Queries by LHD or Small Area may yield different numbers than in prior months. For more information go to https://ibis.utah.gov/ibisph-view/pdf/resource/Algorithm.pdf

This module uses the NYU ED classification algorithm to report ED data. The algorithm was developed with the advice of a panel of emergency medicine and primary care physicians, and it is based on an examination of a sample of almost 6,000 full patient ED records. Each case was classified into Emergent Primary Care Treatable, Emergent ED Care Needed but Not Preventable/Avoidable, Emergent ED Care Needed but Preventable/Avoidable, Psych, Alcohol and Drug Related, Mental Health Related, Injury, Unclassified.
