Query Builder for Nonfatal Injury Inpatient Hospital Discharge Query Module for Utah Small Areas - Median Length of Stay in Days

Overview

The inpatient discharge data in this IBIS-Q query module come from all Utah licensed hospitals. The database is maintained by the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, Healthcare Information and Analysis Programs. The population data used for the denominator were produced by ESRI ZIP Code data provided annual population estimates for ZIP Code areas by sex and age groups, are considered the most accurate available.

ICD-10-CM Injury Data

This IBIS-PH module queries injury data only. Injury causes (step 2) and injury intention (step 3) in this module are consistent with the Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists ICD-10-CM Injury Surveilance Toolkit, available at https://www.cste.org/page/injury-surv-toolkit

  • What year grouping do you want to select? Default is single years, most recent year.

  • Injury Hospitalizations

    Primary diagnosis field is one of the following codes: S00-S99; T07-T34; T36-T50 with a 6th character of 1, 2, 3, or 4 (exceptions: T36.9, T37.9, T39.9, T41.4, T42.7, T43.9, T45.9, T47.9, or T49.9 which are included if the code has a 5th character of 1, 2, 3, or 4); T51-T76; T79; O9A.2-O9A.5; T84.04; or M97. The codes must have a 7th character of A, B, C, or missing, which reflects initial encounter, active treatment.
    First choose a coding scheme to use for injury causes of hospitalization. (Default is all injury causes.)

  • TBI

    Primary diagnosis field is one of the following codes: S00-S99; T07-T34; T36-T50 with a 6th character of 1, 2, 3, or 4 (exceptions: T36.9, T37.9, T39.9, T41.4, T42.7, T43.9, T45.9, T47.9, or T49.9 which are included if the code has a 5th character of 1, 2, 3, or 4); T51-T76; T79; O9A.2-O9A.5; T84.04; or M97. The codes must have a 7th character of A, B, C, or missing, which reflects initial encounter, active treatment.
    AND
    One of the following codes in ANY diagnosis field: S02.0, S02.1, S02.8X, S02.80, S02.81, S02.82, S02.91, S04.02, S04.03, S04.04, S06, S07.1, or T74.4 with a 7th character of A, B, or missing

    • Select TBI definition

    • TBI

      One of the following codes in ANY diagnosis field: S02.0, S02.1, S02.8X, S02.80, S02.81, S02.82, S02.91, S04.02, S04.03, S04.04, S06, S07.1, or T74.4 with a 7th character of A, B, or missing

    • Traumatic brain injury INCLUDING unspecified injury of head

      Has one of the TBI codes OR S09.90 in any diagnosis field

    • Select drug overdose definition

    • All drug overdose

      All-drug overdose hospitalizations caused by non-fatal acute poisonings due to the effects of drugs, regardless of intent (unless an intent filter is selected) or type of drug. This indicator excludes hospitalizations related to late effects, adverse effects, underdosing, and chronic poisonings due to the effects of drugs (e.g., damage to organs from long-term drug use).

      Has one of the following in any diagnosis field with a 7th character of A or missing: T36-T50* with a 6th character of 1-4
      *T36.9, T37.9, T39.9, T41.4, T42.7, T43.9, T45.9, T47.9, T49.9 with a 5th character of 1-4

    • Opioid overdose

      Has one of the following in any diagnosis field with a 7th character of A or missing: T40.0X, T40.1X, T40.2X, T40.3X, T40.4X, T40.60, T40.69 with a 6th character of 1-4

    • Heroin overdose

      Has one of the following in any diagnosis field with a 7th character of A or missing: T40.1X with a 6th character of 1-4

    • Stimulant overdose

      Has one of the following in any diagnosis field with a 7th character of A or missing: T40.5X, T43.60, T43.61, T43.62, T43.63, T43.64, T43.69 with a 6th character of 1-4

  • Select from list of intentions

  • First choose a coding scheme to use for age groups.(Default is age adjustment age groups, all ages.)

  • Would you like to include only males or only females in the results? Default includes both sexes.

  • Default is all Utah Small Areas

    • To get the HII map please select "ADI" on "Map" on last step "How to display the data" step.

To display a map, you must select Geographic Area in Display By (category) and None in Group By (series)

Primary group by field

Defines the data's primary grouping dimension. The primary grouping is required and also controls the ordering of the result's data rows. In MS-Excel and other graphing packages this is typically referred to as the the "dataset's category". If viewing in a 2-d table layout then this value/dimension is associated with table's "row" values. Others will refer to this value as the first "cross by" or the first dimension.

Optional secondary group by field

Defines the 2nd field (or dimension) to be used to group and aggregate values by. MS-Excel chart users will commonly refer to this as the dataset's "series" field. If viewing in a 2-d table layout then this field is associated with data table's value columns. Series group bys are optional. Maps and some charts, like the "Pie" chart, are currently not programmed to handle datasets that have more than one group by e.g. they only work with the primary category type group by being specified.

Optional chart graph

Defines the optional chart graphic to display.

NOTE: Maps and some charts, like the "Pie" chart, are currently not programmed to handle datasets that have more than one group by e.g. they only work with the primary category type group by being specified. All other charts will only work with a maximum of 2 group bys e.g. if the fixed group by exists then the series group by can NOT be used with charting or maps.

Optional map graph

Defines the optional map graphic to display.

NOTE: Maps are only available when the category is set to a geographical area and does not have a series defined.
