Risk Factors

The risk of arthritis is linked to being overweight or obese, lack of physical inactivity, and smoking. Females have higher rates of arthritis than males. The prevalence of arthritis also increases with age. White, non-Hispanic and non-White, non-Hispanic individuals are more likely to report arthritis than Hispanic/Latinos.
